Construction is underway on the County Road 211 and County Road 225 Bridge Replacement Project, which began in March. This important project will replace the bridges over Interstate 70 at Lemon Trail (County Road 211) and Nitrogen Avenue (County Road 225). 🚧

Last week, our team completed a girder setting on Lemon Trail, providing a valuable learning opportunity for our Capital Academy students. They got a firsthand look at our crews in action and experienced a day in the life within this division of our operations.

The CapitalTezak team, in partnership with Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers and Architects, is proud to announce that we have been honored with Colorado Department of Transportation’s 2024 Best Environmental Project Award for the Region 2 Bridge Bundle Design-Build Project! 👏

This award recognizes projects and teams that demonstrate exceptional environmental stewardship and sustainability in transportation initiatives. 🚧

“By using innovative contracting, and building true partnerships, this project team exemplified environmental stewardship while also saving money and time to implement this large project. Innovations lead to a reduction in environmental impacts and better mitigation in many key resource areas including endangered species, visual, access impacts, wetlands, and water quality specifically. It greatly reduced construction timelines and saved a substantial amount of budget.”

We’re incredibly proud of our team and this collaborative effort, which delivered the project safely - six months ahead of schedule. By fostering innovative design, effective coordination, and dynamic teamwork, we successfully upgraded structures along three critical highway corridors. These improvements support rural connectivity, enhance freight movement, and strengthen infrastructure vital to Colorado’s agricultural communities. 👊

As National Construction Safety Week comes to a close and the hotter months approach, it’s critical to recognize the dangers of heat-related illnesses and how to prevent them.

Did you know that construction workers and miners account for nearly 𝗼𝗻𝗲-𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 of all heat-related worker deaths? This alarming statistic highlights why heat safety awareness is so important. When the body can’t cool itself, it redirects blood away from vital organs - potentially causing permanent damage or even death if not addressed quickly.

Dean Burns, Construction Safety Manager in our Denver, CO office, shares these key tips:
💧 Hydrate: Drink a cup of water every 15–20 minutes. Sports drinks containing balanced electrolytes help during long, sweaty days. Skip the alcohol and caffeine - they dehydrate you.
🧊 Cool down: Take breaks in the shade or AC. Wear light, breathable gear when possible.
🚨 Know the signs: Heat Exhaustion: Dizziness, cramps, nausea, sweating. Heat Stroke: Red, dry skin, confusion, fainting - call 911 immediately!
📱 Use the app: Download the free OSHA-NIOSH Heat Safety Tool to track risk levels and get first-aid tips.
👀 Look out for each other: A teammate with heat stroke may not realize it’s happening. Step in fast.

Let’s remember that safety is a shared responsibility - protecting our teammates, staying alert, and never cutting corners.

Our crews recently completed a 200+ CY deck pour as part of the bridge replacement project on Hwy. 9 over Pee Dee Creek in Clinton, AR! In collaboration with the Arkansas Department of Transportation, this project will replace the existing weight-restricted 160’ x 25’ bridge with a safer, modern structure. The project spans less than one mile and includes roadway improvements with new 11’ travel lanes and 6’ shoulders. Project completion is slated for August. 🚧

A big shoutout to our hardworking crews for their efforts on this project - from setup to execution, their commitment and skill have been key to delivering high-quality results!

A 10-minute team huddle to discuss our tasks for the day not only establishes a clear line of communication, but also gives us the opportunity to voice safety concerns and identify any additional measures that need to be taken. These discussions help reduce workplace injuries, enhance productivity by preventing accidents, and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to a safe work environment. Several tools can be used to help identify hazards, determine the need for additional PPE or special equipment, and address requirements such as confined space permits.”
