The Missouri State Capitol Resurfacing Project was a critical initiative aimed at improving the roadways surrounding this iconic landmark. The scope included milling the existing asphalt surface to a depth of 2", followed by full-depth patching and a uniform 2" overlay across the entire area.

Full-depth patching involved removing existing asphalt and subgrade materials to a depth of 10", then reconstructing with 6" of aggregate base and 4" of bituminous base asphalt. To ensure a seamless surface, Capital utilized tandem pavers, eliminating cold joints along the centerline of the roadway encircling the Capitol.

Timing was crucial due to the project's proximity to the Capitol, with work scheduled around legislative sessions and July 4th events. This limited window required precise planning to minimize disruption to Capitol operations and public activities.

The high visibility of the project area, frequented by tourists and government officials, posed challenges in maintaining safe access for both pedestrians and vehicles. Extensive communication and coordination among stakeholders were essential to implement an effective traffic management plan.

By successfully addressing these challenges and employing advanced paving techniques, the project significantly enhanced the roadway infrastructure surrounding the Missouri State Capitol, improving both functionality and aesthetic appeal in this vital government center.
